Artifact Story

Dating to the Eastern Han dynasty, the original bronze lamp was excavated in 1980 from Ganquan Tomb No. 2 in Hanjiang, Yangzhou, and is held by Nanjing Museum. Shaped as a standing ox, its lamp pan, adjustable shade panels and curved flue form an integrated structure designed to guide smoke toward the hollow body while controlling the direction of light.
