Artifact Story

Excavated in 2001 from tomb M54 at Yinxu, the original bronze wine vessel is modeled as a powerful buffalo with a forward-facing head, rounded body and short legs. The name Ya Chang is cast beneath the neck and inside the lid. Layered animal motifs—including dragons, tigers, birds and fish—cover its surface.
